My $30 bonus

August 28, 2007

I got a free $30 bonus from one of the poker sites.

Played a little and grinded it up to $196 in 3 hours.  Wow!  I know I played good but they must have flicked my boomswitch lol.

We’ll see how we go….I am still skeptical lol!

Last week’s game was 11 players.  I knew with so many players, bluffing wasn’t an option until we whittled it down to 7 maximum seeing the flop.

The prize was good – $420.  Nice for a home game.

Anyway, I had quite cold cards during the rebuy, rebought once + topped up.  I was in for $60 by this point.

Once the freezeout came, a few late position bets/bluffs would see me pick up the pot.  I had to fold when challenged or pick up the cash when unchallenged.  I ended up about even doing this.

Then some big pots I can’t even remember lol.  I outdrew arthur for the flush I remember.  Basically moved all in on 50/50s and above.

Al forgot to put the blinds up, so we were stuck at 100/200 blinds for ages.  That actually helped me I think as I only move on premium cards during the freezeout.

With 10 players to go, it was still fairly even chips.  I grinded and won my all ins to the final …. me versus Shugster.  Clash of the titans lol.  We are easily the best two players at the home game and I knew it was a coin flip with the massive blinds.  I lowered my standards and moved all in on any Ace etc.

There was a wobbly bit where I thought maybe shugster was going to pull ahead.  Instead, I got a bit lucky and pulled through to chip leader.  Meanwhile the blinds were about 6000 and we only had 20,000 between us!  I won the showdown with A-9 I think and took $440.  Yeeeeeah!

This week I abstained.  I was too tired from the long journey where I picked up my new 4×4.  Instead I got the results via MSN.  Al 2nd, Bob 1st.  Shugster finished a respectable 4th.

Monday nite game

August 14, 2007

After last weeks landslide I didn’t expect to win.  Even less so with 11 players.

In any case, I wasn’t going to repeat my 32clubs beating Alans KK.

I had a good first half but did worry that I would go cold cards 2nd half, which I did.  Made some good bets and the donks folded sometimes because of my AA all in pre-flop trick last week.   I lasted to 5th place and had 7clubs 2diamonds on the small blind, called.  Flop came 10/9/6 clubs.  I had the straight draw (gutshot), flush and straight flush draw (gutshot).  D bet, I raised all in.

Now in this situation, if you didn’t have a nut flush draw or the flush draw you should lay it down.  Instead, D called and said ‘you got the flush?’.  Nope I was on the draw, but if he thought I had the flush, then he would have been behind.  Instead he had a K10 and I was 47% to win the hand but missed.  A good play anyway at that stage of the blind structure.

My 1995 Ford behaved itself mostly on the way home which was a relief and I think I got the real luck there lol!

Played a freeroll this AM but was out quickly.  No passion for online now unless I had a big bankroll.

Variance is life….

August 14, 2007

Got to final table in the $30+3…first prize was $600.

Grinded it till 5th, got AA…limped as they were so aggressive, somebody moved all in…I called….he had 55 and spiked a 5 immediately.  Sick.

Got $150 then blew it quickly at the cash tables.

Monday night home game 6th Aug was good….I played so loose previous sessions no one gave my all-ins during the rebuy any credit.  So I got AA and moved all in 2nd position.  I hollywooded perfectly and got 2 callers (Sean A9, D A7)…my AA stood up and I tripled.  Nice!

The 2nd half was a landslide, I called a big bluff by Ross…I could hear it in his voice he was weak and I spiked a Jack to my my AJ hand the winner.  He fired on the flop, checked the turn, then fired on the river.  I called and my Jacks took it.

Then I had a big decision with AJ again, the pot was raised, I’d called then Sean moved all in and D again. I decided all those chips made it worth it and I would be left with some small chips to fight on 1 or 2 more hands.  I called, both other guys had AQ.  But I spiked a Jack and took the pot.  Wow!

After that I just played really aggressive as I had so many chips, everyone was grinding for 2nd place knowing they had no chance against my mountain of chips.  I stole, stole, stole and even when we went to flop I hit all the time.

$60 in, $300 out.  $240 profit.  Nice, I liked that.  It was a nice change from crashing the car and nailing $1850 in the last week!

Life is variance.
