Broke even on my poker career – but missed Monday nite game…
October 30, 2007
Broke even on my poker career, played like a nit or rock just a few orbits and picked up small change.
Right now about -$100 as I do a few careful orbits of the 5/10.
I am seriously considering going part-time pro playing online, but we shall see.
All geed up for the Monday night game….but as I got nearer the freeway entrance I could see a traffic jam. Serious car crash, all lanes shut….they took 30 mins to tell us to turn around. Fuck. It was a limp game I hear with the chip leader being 3500. One time recently I had 16000 at the break!
Will be there next week….
-$400 because I’m stupid
October 25, 2007
The lure of running up more rakeback points meant I decided to drop $400 on the new poker site. I already lost $200 on it last week in warm up.
Well, I decided to gamble as there was a raiser and 3 calls with my J5.
Flop comes J57
So I figure I’m in front. I check, bet, raise all in. I decide to raise all in and isolate…could be up against a set….but 2 pair is hard to lay down on that kind of flop.
All the money went in 3 way….and somebody caught runner-runner to make a straight.
Then managed to double up against aggressive player with AA.
Had about $320 but donked it off why I got QQ…flop JJ8. Should have bailed then, but stayed in. Turn A. Should have bailed again but stayed and had to call the river A. Guy turned 888 for a full house.
I was tired towards the end the session and should have just folded on the flop.
Another hard lesson learned….I seem to make mistakes come the end of the session….
So that’s online poker over for the time being. I will withdraw my winnings to Neteller and be done with it.
$4000 in 24 hours
October 25, 2007
Dropped $1200 in my online poker a/c.
Played 5/10.
Grinded really well, trapped and slapped the aggressive players.
I was trapping with aces and an aggressive player drew out on me – he hit a 5 on the river to give him trips. That was my only real mistake.
The other two times I ran into this aggressive player, I trapped him and outbet him to push him out.
So in 24 hours I made $4000.
I halfed a ticket with a Shugster to the FTOPs $2M gted. That’s in November. 1st prize would be $600-700K.
Played a $10+1 tournament also – and cashed 34th from 400 or so players. I made a great bluff for my full stack late in the tournament…..there was a flush on the board and I represented it but was fairly sure the other guy had top pair or something decent. He in fact had trips and did not lay it down. My thinking was he would not put his tournament life on the line with a flush out there.
Wrong!
Then I threw my remaining chips on a 3-way with K10. I figured if I’m going to get back in this tournament, I need to get lucky and triple up. Ran into AA and AK!!!
It wasn’t all bad, moved all in with 77 and ran into AA but outdrew.
So I got paid $17.
And to top it off I won on the lottery – a small win of $150 but not bad for a $2 ticket.
Cashing out everything but currently ‘vulturing’ at the 5/10, if I see anything I’ll go for it, but will fold otherwise.
This weeks poker report….
October 23, 2007
Monday nite game – played OK, caught some hands, did v.little/zero bluffing as they were all calling stations.
Finished 4th.
No stopping Ross, he outflopped everyone at the end. It was a big full house night, lots of them, even me and Alan split a pot where we both hit Ks full of 10s.
My $200 in the new poker a/c went up and down, up and down. And finally down. I had $680 this morning, lost $520 on AA. I raised it PF, 1 caller. Flop 782. I bet, he re-raises. It occurs to me he might have trips, but I ain’t laying down Aces. He might have KK or QQ or JJ and hope I have A-blah and missed the flop. So I move all in, he calls with trip 7s. Bah!
Moved to a 6-table, got robbed there also, close hands mostly. Hit top pair (jacks), ran into Kings. Then low stacked made a straight but the bottom end – a 10 would kill me. Went all in, yup the other guy had a 10.
I’ve played for about a week, 4 tournaments = $200. I was wondering when my slump was going to occur.
May well play some tommorrow, but after that it’s over. I’m thinking about going back to an old poker site where I have lost/won a few $. Today when I got low stacked I just felt it was futile not to find a hand to move all in with….
Online poker flutter…
October 20, 2007
Signed up for a new poker website….it’s on my timeline so better.
Decided to drop $200 just to run the a/c and see….I was primarily using this poker site for it’s MTT guaranteed prizes. I played the $10+2, finished 14th and got paid $11….lost the $40+4 (finished half way) and then won a 6 man SNG which was $110+10 buy in = cashed $380.
Played some cash games, could only find 6 player tables. So gave it a whirl and played super aggressive. Went from $434 to $160 then to $560. Everyone was calling me a fish lol. Finished the session $400. So had some fun and got some sparring practice. I was playing Sammy Farha being 6 handed and there were some true donks at the table.
This morning I finished 20th from 69 in the $40+4. Not bad as I was cold carded a lot and had to play when I thought I was ahead, which I tended to be. Forced to play 82 suited in the big blind all in as I only had enough for 2 blinds. Hit 8s and 2s but 4 clubs came on the board and the other guy got a flush. Bummer!
Now playing $1/2 and seeing how we go. it’s a 10 table so no sudden moves.
It’s all really in prep for my birthday next week where I will play 1 or 2 tournaments and cash games. Then I will check all the money out the following day. My target (ha!) is $4400 to right all my losses for the last 18 months…tall task for 1 day.
The last 3 Mondays
October 16, 2007
Haven’t posted in the last 3 weeks – I guess poker is becoming fairly low key. I’ve religously abandonned online cash games and only play the odd tournament for low stakes when I have time. Maybe $50 max. buy in but more likely $30.
1st Oct Monday nite game – came 7th. Nothing really happened and there was little opportunity to steal. A fairly drab game in all.
8th Oct Monday nite game – poker gods must have been hearing our comments about the game being drab. This time it was anything but drab….I landslide and outdrew multi-all in pots during the rebuy and built a monster stack….with my add on it was 13K. I moved it up to 16K but then lost it in 2 big pots – Shugster raised 1500 with A7, I move all in for 1/2 my stack with AK. He calls. But shugster gets lucky and his 7 makes a straight on the board. I then got all my chips in with 55 against A10 suited of Alans. In front slightly, 10 popped on the flop and it was over. 6th place. Just shows you a big chip stack can easily be lost with turbo blinds…must rememember just to call sometimes with AK.
15th Oct Monday nite game – got some OK cards and managed to close down some pots without going to showdown. Caught cards here and there but added up to a decent run overall. Final 2 places with D….I’d ran into D with 66 earlier and he went all in with AA. He is one lucky donkey and what throws me is when he looks worried, he actually has a monster. It’s a true amateur traight, getting nervous with the nuts. Anyway, I outplayed him and stole most of his chips off him, backed off when he fired and I had nothing. He never re-raises without the goods. Had D almost on the ropes, he had enough for 1 blind. I put him all in…but he hit and caught a card. He won a few more….then we were evenish, I caught 10/10, put him all in. He flips A7. I’m in great shape, only 1 overcard. D has to catch an Ace (3 outs) or running 7s/A7 combos. It’s looking good, but the flop brings an A and the turn an A too. You can’t beat a lucky donk!
So I finish 2nd for $80.
That brings my cashes to 15/24. Or 62.5% cash rate. Wins are 7/24 or 28%. I’m happy with those stats so far.
